Enrollment at the University of Lynchburg isn't just shifting. It's changing in ways that statistics can’t explain. Students are choosing this campus for something great and bigger. A feeling of home.
The University of Lynchburg’s enrollment reflects a growing history with smaller, community-driven students and people, where students feel seen, supported, and connected.
The enrollment data from USNews.com reveals that there has been an increase of 1,595 incoming undergrad students and a 4.4% increase in transfer students at Lynchburg. While most colleges across the country are dealing with issues and conflicts to keep certain enrollment numbers in place, Lynchburg’s recent 3.5% increase in enrollment since 2024, according to Statistics - VCCS shows the progress the university is making.
Most students want to feel known and not numbered.
For students, a smaller college environment is simple. They want a professor who “knows their name and makes an impact on them, along with a campus they won't feel disappear into the background”.
Zion Wilson said, “I think I much prefer going to a smaller school. Of course, it means we don't have quite as many facilities as a larger one. But it also means I can get to know the people on campus so much better.”
As Lynchburg enrollment shifts, like Zion’s interest, it shows what attracts students here.
Michael Tock said, “I chose Lynchburg because it was so small, I didn’t have to worry about getting overwhelmed as easily. Smaller schools are also usually stronger socially, which was a huge factor as well!”.
His experience shows why Lynchburg shows how his voice can be heard through a community-driven campus.
As Lynchburg navigates through shifting in enrollment, the stories students share show how numbers alone don't define college and the experience that comes with it.
